Alpha Translations Canada Inc. on the road:
What is happening in the hometown of Alpha Translations Canada Inc.?
Edmonton, Alberta - the home of Alpha Translations Canada Inc. - is known as festival city of Canada. And that for good reason! Each summer, a multitude of Edmonton festivals suit practically any taste.
Starting July 24 and running through until August 2 is an event that's perfect for anyone who appreciates interesting history. The 13th Annual Edmonton & Northern Alberta Historic Festival brings the past to life in some fascinating ways. For example, there are "ghost tours" that leave from the Old Strathcona farmer's market. Check out numerous historic sites that are allegedly haunted. There's also an Edmonton tour through the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, your chance to see what influential people were buried there. Oh, and just so you know, there are plenty of kid-friendly events happening during the festival too!
If you're looking for something a little more. well, revved up, Northlands presents the 2009 Rexall Edmonton Indy. With its race cars that reach speeds of more than 200 miles per hour, this event promises (and delivers) heart-pounding entertainment. The Rexall Edmonton Indy is 3-days of gas, guts and glory as the world's greatest driver's battle for supremacy on the super fast, technically challenging road course at the Rexall Speedway. The fast paced action also takes to the air! See a special performance of the famed Canadian Forces Snowbirds, with planes flying in formation a mere four feet apart. In a word, it's breathtaking.
For music lovers, there's the always raved-about Edmonton Folk Music Festival, in the scenic Gallagher Park. This is the 30th anniversary of the famed music festival. Fittingly, the line-up is filled with some big names: Sarah McLachlan, Tracy Chapman, Neko Case, Loudon Wainwright III, Rodney Crowell, Ashley MacIsaac, Steve Earle, Boz Scaggs, and Iron & Wine, just to name a few. Be sure to be there for the finale.
Fans of live theatre flock to the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival in Old Strathcona. Modeled on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe but with shows completely dependent on the luck of the draw, this Edmonton favourite has become the largest Fringe theatre festival in North America. During this, the 28th annual year of the festival, the theme is Stage a Revolution. Between its 157 plays happening in a number of permanent theatres and other venues converted into temporary theatres for the Edmonton event, you're sure to see some particularly revolutionary stuff happening onstage.

Now Hiring: Green-Collar Workers
The federal government is poised to pump billions into clean energy projects that could create as many as 1.5 million new green jobs
When Alden Zeitz started the Wind Energy Program at Iowa Lakes Community College five years ago, 15 students enrolled.
Stimulus for Green Energy
The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 is a stimulus package that includes money for solar farms, wind turbines, electrical grid updates, mass transit, and the weatherizing and retrofitting of buildings. Besides its environmental benefits, the spending is expected to produce much needed jobs-about 1 million to 1.5 million of them, according to estimates by some environmental groups.
"We've had a slow year because of the global economy," Zeitz says. "But our industry is poised to recover quickly."
The clean energy economy accounted for about 770,000 jobs in 2007, according to a recent study from the Pew Charitable Trusts. But job boards might soon be populated with openings for environmental engineers, construction managers, hydrologists, architects, and interior designers with green building training, as well as for directors of environmentally focused nonprofit groups.
Best-Paying Green Jobs
Not all of these jobs will pay top salaries. Many of the new green-collar jobs will be taken by blue-collar construction workers. BusinessWeek teamed up with PayScale.com to determine the highest-paid green jobs. Wind turbine technicians, who earn a median pay of $53,600, ranked 12th on our list of 21 jobs. Environmental engineering managers, who typically earn $103,200, topped the list.
You won't necessarily need a science degree to land a green job. Environmental companies will need secretaries, administrators, and public relations specialists. And construction companies will need workers to install energy-efficient boilers, windows, and insulation.
"We project that about a million jobs will come out of the stimulus investment," says Phil Angelides, chairman of the San Francisco-based Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, business, and environmental groups that advocates for clean energy.
